Electronic Logging Devices and Challenger

Currently in the Supply Chain industry, there is regular news surrounding Electronic Logging Devices as the December 18 deadline for US mandatory implementation steadily draws near.

Challenger is glad to report that our assets are 100% ELD compliant, and have been since last year.

Through Electronic Logging Devices, we ensure we run our business to high standards. As many other carriers have not made the transition between paper and electronic logging systems, and are figuring out how to meet the costly new requirements, Challenger stands in a prime position as a premium and technologically current carrier.

In light of the upcoming ELD regulations in the States, the Canadian Trucking Alliance recently published a News Release with a video, “CTA Video: Carrier-Customer Relations in an ELD World”, which says: “Mandatory Electronic Logging Devices – coming into effect in the U.S. in December 2017 and in Canada shortly after – are fundamentally changing carrier-shipper relations. As carriers gear up to comply with the rule, shippers need to consider the implications to their own businesses.”

Furthermore, the release stresses that the success of the transportation industry relies on a shared understanding by shippers and customers alike to ensure that drivers move efficiently, and can arrive and rest in compliance with the new regulations: “…shippers and carriers need to plan better to account for other delays outside of a driver’s control – such as construction, severe weather and cross-border snarls – which can all eat up allowable driving hours. Furthermore, carriers need to work closer with their customers in creating as many safe resting and downtime opportunities as possible.”

We are embarking into a season of change in the Supply Chain Industry, where regulation compliance is monitored more accurately, and because of that, higher standards of business practices will be needed. This must be recognized by shippers and customers alike. At Challenger, we already operate as a premium carrier with high standards, and thorough business practices. With full ELD compliance, we continue to Go the Distance.
