Recollecting when Challenger’s Head Office was visited by a Film Crew

I started  with Challenger in the Sales and Marketing department last spring, almost a year ago, and I have seen a lot of great changes to the company since arriving. One of the bigger changes was that Challenger dedicated itself on bringing a fresher look to our company website. This “face lift” has made Challenger’s online presence more organized, user friendly and better for serving our important customers.

During the development of the website, another exciting thing was happening at Challenger: we had a film crew visit our headquarters on a few occasions and they documented the great things we have to offer customers and employees. I got the opportunity to facilitate the filming, and it was fascinating to watch the crew find the best compositions, the perfect angles, the best lighting and colour filtering, and capture Challenger to its best potential. They were very thorough and professional, and it was interesting seeing just how long it takes to film a shot lasting for only a few seconds in the edited final.

The cameras scoped out many features and individual people, including staff members who talked about the great things happening at Challenger. Included was our VP of Sales and Director of Recruitment. They both had center-stage moments as they starred in our new commercials for our website. You can check them out below.

Even I had my five minutes of fame (or should I say approximately 2 seconds)! When needing a figure to drive our truck simulator, I was volunteered for the job, never having sat behind the wheel of a big-rig before. That few seconds of footage with the simulator was actually an hour long driving lesson in which I learned that driving an 18-wheeler is quite different from my tiny VW.

During the simulation, I drove moderately well. Actually, I took out a virtual suburban – but it was their fault for getting in my way! Our actual company drivers are certainly safer behind the wheel of these massive vehicles, and have exponentially better training than my impromptu lesson. In any event, you should all be thankful that I am sticking to my marketing role and little VW, and won’t be getting behind the wheel of anything much bigger any time soon.

Overall, the filming was a great success. Being a part of the process was a great experience. We took footage in the building, yard, on the road and more, and all of these things combined into some great promotional material.
