BI Report Analyst

Challenger is looking for a qualified BI Report Analyst for a full time position in our Information Technology Department.

Job Description:

Reporting to the BI Supervisor, the BI Report Analyst is responsible for the analysis, development, implementation, and maintenance of database-driven reporting applications within Challenger.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Gather thorough and detailed requirements for report-driven solutions from clients across all of Challenger’s departments.
  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain robust and effective reports to meet specified business needs.
  • Design and deploy cube-driven reporting solutions, derived from existing database structures.
  • Develop and maintain SQL and / or Stored Procedures to effectively manipulate and massage data to meet specific business needs.
  • Carefully examine and consider existing reports, and take steps to ensure that the data and report themselves are the best representation of the client’s requirements.
  • Test and manage the validation of report data, with a specialized focus towards user acceptance testing, and quality assurance.
  • Create workflows and operating practices for the distribution and consumption of report data.
  • Communicate with users to enhance understanding of report data, and intended purpose of deployed reporting applications.
  • Manage report security.
  • Manage and maintain the export of data from database-driven reporting applications.
  • Research, consider, and report on new reporting technologies, to determine if they are viable for implementation within existing system infrastructures.
  • Document new and existing report-driven applications.
  • Provide 2nd level technical support to the help desk team related to reporting applications and structures.


  • Must possess a college diploma or higher in Information Systems.
  • Proven knowledge of Business Intelligence methodologies.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft SQL server and all its component technologies.
  • Mastery of OLAP and Business Intelligence, with a focus on Cube design, deployment and enhancement.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Business Intelligence Studio, including SQL Integration Services and SQL Reporting Services.
  • Strong skillset relating to all Microsoft Office tools, with a focus on Microsoft Excel and PowerPivot.
  • Ability to develop database queries in T-SQL, MDX.
  • Possess the ability to multi-task, while maintaining priority and attention to detail, in an environment with strict deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft .NET development framework would be an asset.
  • Experience working within the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Sharepoint and Analyzer would be an asset.
  • ITIL experience would be an asset.


  • Monday to Friday, regular business hours
  • Flexible with respect to work hours (ie: Server Maintenance during off-peak hours).
